Membership Councils
Education Council
The Mission of the Education Council is to coordinate the Fayette Chamber’s activities in regard to the institutions of learning in the local areas. The Council supports programs that positively impact the students’ understanding of the free enterprise system and in particular, the programs that contribute to school-to-career learning opportunities for students at all levels of education. The Council strives for maximum collaboration between the business and educational communities in developing
these activities, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the students’ acquisition of the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers. The projects of the Fayette Chamber’s Education Council are supported through the funding partnership of The Redstone Foundation.
Objectives:
Sponsor programs providing effective, career-focused and practical information and guidance for students from business leaders and professionals in a wide variety of fields. Current programs include: Special career and job awareness programs for junior and senior high school students, such as Career Day at Divito Park, and assistance with Junior Achievement.
Develop an effective and practical program of activities to promote a greater understanding of the business community’s need for a skilled and talented workforce. Current programs include: Students of the Month Awards, Mentorships Programs, and the Fayette Business Adventure.
Coordinate other activities on behalf of the Chamber’s interest in and involvement in the education of our youth and workforce development. Current programs include: EducationWorks! Awards Reception, which honors both educators and Students of the Months; Students of the Month Scholarship Awards.
Membership: This council is made up of a cross representation of the business and educational community and is open to all Chamber members, both active and affiliate with an interest in working to better our educational systems.
Meeting dates and times:
This council meets on the second Thursday of each month at various locations. The members pay for their own meals ($10 per meeting). The meetings begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. with a relaxed networking lunch (usually buffet) and proceed into discussion of agenda items. The meetings conclude at 1:00 p.m.
Government Affairs Council
Objectives:

Provide informational updates on recent legislation, assisting Chamber members to understand how proposed legislation may affect their business.

Meet with elected officials, communicating the Chamber’s position on specific issues (lobbying activities at local, state, and Federal levels).

Recommend membership action on specific issues, and provide membership with opportunity for access to and interaction with political candidates.

Plan and coordinate quarterly briefings on public affairs topics of local interest and importance to Chamber members.

Review legislation that affects Fayette County business and economic development and propose a unified position to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval, with particular emphasis on tax reform legislation and regional initiatives.

Plan and coordinate Candidate Forums for the primary and general elections for Chamber members and the general public.

Distribute faxed legislative updates from the PA and U.S. Chambers to interested Chamber members.

Special Events Council
The Mission of the Special Events Council’s is to promote the economic stability and general welfare of the Fayette Chamber by originating and implementing stimulating events that provide positive public relations for the Chamber and active members, enhance the quality of life in the community, and raise money for operating income to provide additional services to members.
Objectives:
Encourage member participation in events as sponsors, vendors, and volunteers.
Plan and implement: an Independence Day Celebration & Cookoff with Fireworks (July); Annual Scholarship Golf Outing (September); Annual Recognition and Awards Dinner for Chamber members (October).
Refine and redesign current special events and create and recommend new events to Chamber Board of Directors.
Membership: This council is made up of a representation of community service minded Chamber members at-large, both active and affiliate.
Meeting dates and times: This council meets on an ad hoc basis starting meetings within three to four months of a major event. The meetings are typically held either at 8:00 a.m. or 3:30 p.m., usually on Wednesdays. There is no cost to these meetings, which last approximately one hour.
Transportation Alliance
Mission:
The Transportation Alliance is a grassroots-lobbying group concerned with the County’s transportation infrastructure. Because of the need for concerted, consistent action, the Transportation Alliance is open to representatives of any community or county organization who are concerned with transportation infrastructure in the County.
This council typically meets once per month 2:00 p.m. The meetings are agenda driven and usually last 1.5 to 2 hours.
Tourism Alliance
Mission:
The Tourism is a newly formed grassroots lobbying group concerned with Tourism issues within the County. Because of the need for coordinated, consistent and visible action, the Alliance is open to representatives of any organization or tourism related entity who are concerned with the industry at large in Fayette.
Meeting dates and times:
This council will be meeting once per month in the late afternoon. The meetings are agenda driven and typically last 1.5 to 2 hours.
