The Fayette County Historical Society, in partnership with the Heinz History Center is hosting an exhibit, "We Can Do It!" and "We Can Do It, Fayette!" at the Abel Colley Tavern and Museum. The first floor will house the Heinz History Center's Traveling WWII exhibit. The second floor will feature stories and artifacts of our Fayette County heroes and heroines. Friendship Hill National Battlefield will hold the 2018 Spring Wildflower Walk on Sunday, April 15^th from 10:30 – 1:30 p.m. at its 223 New Geneva Rd, Point Marion location.

Join the Park Ranger to hike the trails and view the multitudes of spring flowers! The flowers are beautiful to observe and learning some of the folklore and legends which surround these harbingers of spring can increase your appreciation for them. The hike will begin at the Visitor Center (Albert Gallatin House), meeting under the saucer magnolia tree. Sturdy walking shoes and a bottle of water are recommended.

The hike will last about 2 hours and covers a two-mile distance (hike is pet-friendly w/leash but caution to young children, elderly and those with pre-existing heart conditions as the terrain may be steep at times). No reservations are required!

Pennsylvania Security Training Institute is offering an NRA Basic Pistol Class on Saturday, April 28^thfrom 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., which is designed to teach new and experienced pistol shooters a hands-on, thorough introduction of handgun safety, handling, loading/unloading, ammunition, malfunctions, and gun cleaning skills (cost is $110). American Red Cross invite you to help sound the alarm about fire safety, by participating in their Sound The Alarm event on Saturday, April 28^th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 108 N. Beeson Avenue, Bldg. D in Uniontown beginning at 9:00 a.m., where you’ll be placed in teams and go door-to-door to discuss the importance of creating and practicing fire escape plans and install free smoke alarms in homes where working alarms don’t exist. Team positions include smoke alarm installers, disaster safety instructors, and reporters (who document resident info).
